PUBLIC SWIMMING PROGRAM
Water Polo
Having been featured on Waterpolo International (a website dedicated to reporting and discussing the international sports of water polo), and being one of the preferred venues in the UAE for international water polo tournaments, not only do we have such space and technology to host these events and crowd, we also have a dedicated and experienced team of experts in delivering the venue with the required field of plays for this world sport.

The capacity of our facility to host a maximum of 6 water polo matches at any one time is precisely why international tournaments such as the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League has been continuously hosted here. The configuration of pools can be of 25m x 25m, 30m x 25m or 22m x 25m, entirely depending on the needs of the competitions.
Of course, water polo training programs for children and adults are available here at Hamdan Sports Complex, coached and guided by professionals from our associated sports clubs.

A little history on water polo:

The rules of water polo were originally developed in the late nineteenth century in Great Britain by William Wilson. The modern game originated as a form of rugby football played in rivers and lakes in England and Scotland with a ball constructed of Indian rubber. This 'water rugby' came to be called 'water polo' based on the English pronunciation of the Balti word for ball, pulu. Early play allowed brute strength, wrestling and holding opposing players underwater to recover the ball; the goalie stood outside the playing area and defended the goal by jumping in on any opponent attempting to score by placing the ball on the deck.
